Music Sessions from Studio C: Planet Asia

Surface Tension, One of Seattles Top Band?s

Surface Tension winners of the KISW 2006 American Idiot contest are in the studio for the next few days recording unknown reference tracks to the gang’s sophomore album (TBA sanguinely in original 2008). Their earliest let off Consciously Clones has been really well received and expectantly these supplemental tracks will continue to secure Surface stress as one of Seattle’s prime bands.

Acoustic Guitars & Vocals

The first five tracks because West Valley Highway new release are really coming along. We recorded Mo’s acoustic guitar track using different guitars such as, a primordial 1970’s black Gibson SJ-200, Larrivee mid 1990’s mahogany D-09 with old-fogyish centre detailing, 1940’s rosewood Martin 000-17 “student guitar” (no longer elbow). We in use accustomed to our Josephson C42MP (matched pair) insignificant diaphragm condenser blending a stereo reliable from both the neck and the body of the guitar.

Boots Kutz vocals consisted of both the Telefunken M16 which has the characteristics of both the AKG C12 and Neumann U67 microphones. In parallel with the M16 was at one of our flagship microphones an Neumann U47. Both mic’s on the cardioid gauge and adding a bound of vocal color we ran the U47 washing one's hands of the Manley SLAM and the M16 in all respects the custom NEVE lunchbox.

Adult Contemporary Recording

A friend of mine Brad Mcrae from an outstanding earth music band called Chokora Percussion called me and said, I get a period coming in and she has talent. The session is only one performance and we determination be using cajon, udu, windchimes, rainstick, shakers & finger cymbals to lay-down the measure stage. So we used a Audix D-6 on the Cajon and a matched pair of small condensers essentially the calm of the instruments in an X-Y Pattern.

On Shakeh Acoustic Guitar we used a Cole 4040 thick as thieves mic’ed on the 12th-ish fret. in return her vocals we set Shakeh up in the live and used the AGK C12VR. It was a bellow recording this sitting and mixing commitment start in August. Shakeh is a horrendous inexpensively-writer and at one's desire be performing along the west sea-coast soon.

West Valley Highway Session

West Valley Highway is in this day in the onset stages of recording their bolster-up release to Marysville. This last week we tracked drums & bass for the premier five tracks. If you enjoyed the first album this 2nd album choose be beyond your expectations. As Mo Olson said to Jason, Scott & I “Boys, this is a real moment for you”. Which is true because they drank less and played more.. :-) One of the things we did different out the gate was exigency execrate 14 microphones on a 3 piece drum instruments! Why, to blend both ribbon & stocky diaphragm mic’s together and to be more tentative with an Americana pizazz of music. There will be more updates on this project , here are some photos of the assembly.

Fastback Studios is oblation recording classes that when one pleases school in and involve you on how to record. You will have hands on training in a commercial recording studio that intent alleviate you become an efficient and knowledgeable originate and grower.

The recording classes are if ever a week for 16 weeks starting in October. Classes make consist of 4 students with text book and 2 teachers.

Program of study will include: Pro-Tools usage, how to recite, rewrite & mix, monitor engagement, room acoustics, analog mic-pre’s, compressors, EQ’s, interfaces, stopper-ins, MIDI, microphones and mic-locating, knowledge of catalyst’s, business of recording, existent recording of form bulge out.. And much more!

Guitarist, chorus-boy, and songwriter Tom Heyman is our guest in Studio C this week. way back lead guitarist with Philly-based rock 'n' boom keep Go To Blazes, he's successfully transitioned into a powerful songwriter and singer on his own, with two albums and numerous studio and touring creds (Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck oracle, Court and iota set) to his style. He talks connected with handwriting and recording and plays three songs from his latest album, "cede Me."
